WHAT HAPPENS WHEN 17,000 PEOPLE IN A RURAL SMALL TOWN ARE TOLD TO IMAGINE LIFE WITH A GOOGLEBIT?... actually 70,000 when you include 95959, 95945, and 95949.
THANKS to our all-volunteer team of organizers and performers for the March and Rally on March 14. The sun was out, and we all came out to show Google that we’re the perfect rural beta test site for 1Gbps Internet service. We submitted the Request for Information and are waiting to hear from Google.
And kudos to our terrific video production team:
Producer/Writer/Director: Suzanne Warren, Silver Avenue Pictures
Co-Director/Director of Photography/Editor/Graphics: David Nicholson
Additional Camera: Larry Huntington, PJ Kolackovsky
Illustrator: Andi Good
On Monday, February 10, Google announced a project named Google Fiber for Communities. Google is planning to launch an experiment that they hope will make Internet access better and faster for everyone. They plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. The networks will deliver speeds more than 100 times faster than current DSL and cable speeds, with 1 gigabit per second fiber-to-the-home connections. At that speed, an HD movie will download in 5 minutes. We believe the 95959 zip code is the perfect test site because of its unique mix of dense and rural areas, plus our creative and high-tech residents.
